About how "Ma - Clean Tabs, Clean Mind" uses local data

"Ma - Clean Tabs, Clean Mind" only stores data when the user explicitly saves a tab.

Specifically, "Ma - Clean Tabs, Clean Mind" stores the following data, in the following format individually for each saved tab:

“id” - an id assigned to the saved page to enable the extension’s functionality.
“url” - the web address/url for the tab the user has chosen to save, allows the user to save and restore the tab. For Youtube specifically, the "Ma - Clean Tabs, Clean Mind" extension also will store the timestamp of the video in the saved tab, allowing the user to resume playing the video when they reopen the tab - this timestamp gets saved here as part of the url.
“title” - the title of the saved page.
“thumb” - whenever a tab is saved, the the extension automatically generates a screenshot of the chosen page and saves this screenshot straight to the local storage along with the rest of the data. This screenshot is used to display a visual preview of the tab in the "Ma - Clean Tabs, Clean Mind" Dashboard UI. This screenshot is 120x80px and base64 encoded, it captures whatever is visible on screen in that tab, so if a user has entered personal data, there is a risk it will have been captured and stored locally on their computer. To be clear, this entire process happens locally, the data is never transmitted anywhere and therefore cannot be accessed by the "Ma - Clean Tabs, Clean Mind" developers in any way, but users should be aware that anyone who has access to their computer could potentially have access to this data too.
“savedAt” - the exact time and date at which the url was stored - used for functionality such as: sorting the tabs, and displaying their time and date in the "Ma - Clean Tabs, Clean Mind" Dashboard UI.
“category” - the category of the tab, this allows tabs to be sorted into different categories in the "Ma - Clean Tabs, Clean Mind" Dashboard UI. Currently the only option and only category is “temporary”.

An example of the data format with example data:

"id": "a3f8c2d1-...",
"url": "https://example.com/page",
"title": "Page Title Here",
"thumb": "data:image/jpeg;base64,/9j/4AAQ...",
"savedAt": "2026-05-06T10:30:00.000Z",
"category": "temporary"

All of this data is stored using chrome.storage.local, - meaning it is stored on the user’s device, in their chosen Google Chrome storage folder (usually: ~/Library/Application Support/Google/Chrome/Default/Local Extension Settings// for Mac or C:\Users\\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\Local Extension Settings\\ for windows).

The "Ma - Clean Tabs, Clean Mind" developer has no access to any of this data, no data is ever transmitted by Ma to any server or shared with the "Ma - Clean Tabs, Clean Mind" developer or any third parties, it is never used for analytics or advertising by "Ma - Clean Tabs, Clean Mind" or the "Ma - Clean Tabs, Clean Mind" developers. The user should familiarise themselves with Google’s own policy on locally stored data and how Google may handle this data.

The extension has no backend and no account system, meaning we do not collect, store or transmit any personal data on you. The only copy of the data is that which is stored locally on your device.

How to remove your data

When a user restores a saved tab from the dashboard (by clicking on its card in the "Ma - Clean Tabs, Clean Mind" Dashboard UI), its associated data (the data outlined in the "About how "Ma - Clean Tabs, Clean Mind" uses local data" section) is immediately and permanently deleted from local storage - and therefore immediately and permanently deleted in its entirety.

To be clear, none of this data is held by the developers, and none of it can be accessed by us. All data (saved urls, preview images etc.) is stored on your device, under your control, meaning we have no access to it and therefore cannot help you remove it. You can clear/delete all of your data at any time yourself via the following methods:

1. By deleting the associated files in your local chrome storage folder on your device (usually ~/Library/Application Support/Google/Chrome/Default/Local Extension Settings/<extension-id>/ for Mac or C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\Local Extension Settings\<extension-id>\ for windows).
2. You can also delete all of your data along with the extension itself by simply uninstalling the "Ma - Clean Tabs, Clean Mind" extension.

Please note, both of these two methods will permanently delete all of your stored tabs.
